1999 SLAGO Conference
"Opportunities for Gay Groups"

The 1999 SLAGO Conference was held on 23rd October, at the Bread and Roses, Clapham, with 35 delegates, representing 16 gay and lesbian groups in Surrey and London:
Gay broadcaster and journalist Peter Robins gave the keynote speech, followed by a discussion chaired by Terry Murphy of SLG. Roger Burg of RAGS spoke on opportunities for gay and lesbian groups on the Internet, Philip Bayliss of SLG led a discussion on the strengths and weaknesses of local groups, and Ross Burgess of CAGS posed questions about the future of SLAGO. Ros Jackson of KRAGS summed up, and the conference was opened and closed by Brian Parker of LMG (Chair of SLAGO). Issues raised by delegates included the danger that group members without Internet access might be sidelined, and the apparent failure of SLAGO and its member organisations to cater for young people and lesbians.
